A team of 15 skilled artisans (karigars) from the Indian Himalayas work together to create a single Cape. Materials are locally sourced and the inter-connected villages efficiently handle different parts of the production process.
By crafting our KARIGAR products, artisans develop an eye for detail, innovative design skills and learn how to create consistent quality, a skill that takes them far for the rest of their working life. The regular employment and a steady income from our collaboration leads to confidence and financial freedom that allows them to invest in educating their young children.
India has more than 200 million artisans and KARIGAR has worked with more than 2,000 to co-create their collections. While more than 70% of our artisans are women, we are happy to work with our male karigars too. We love anyone with a passion for their craft and a desire to create a positive impact!
We want you to know the people behind your handcrafted product. Scan the QR code on your Talking Tag (product hangtag) to discover how your Cape was created and who made it.
How to Care
Your KARIGAR Cape has been crafted by hand and made to last, but you will still need to show it some love. Hand wash gently (and only if needed) using mild detergent and lukewarm water. Lay flat to dry and store folded.
This cape is a part of KARIGAR’s #mywings collection. #mywings collection has been inspired by the Birds of Paradise, known for their spectacular colours , boldness and their ability to change shape and form. Just like these beautiful birds the handcrafted KARIGAR Cape can transform into different styles for each unique woman and her many moods.
